Auckland witnessed an unforgettable evening as Shibani Kashyap, India’s iconic pop diva and musical sensation, took the stage at the World & Us: Indian Festival – New Zealand Chapter 2025. Honourable Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Labour leader Chris Hipkins teamed up for a display of ‘dad dancing’ at the Indian Independence Day celebrations in Auckland. Honourable Prime Minister Christopher Luxon invited Shibani onstage at the Due Drop Events Centre to dance with her at the event on Saturday night. Presented by CD Foundation, the Indian Consulate of New Zealand, and the Consulate General of India in Auckland, the festival brought the Voice of India to Aotearoa in a grand celebration of culture and unity. Heartfelt gratitude to Charu Das of CD Foundation, whose vision and tireless efforts made this remarkable tour possible. In association with the Indian Consulate and the High Commission of India in New Zealand, her contribution has been pivotal in strengthening cultural ties and fostering a deeper bond between India and New Zealand.Shibani also performed in Hamilton, enthralling audiences across both cities. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the High Commission of New Zealand for their warm welcome and support. Adding a unique cultural touch to her visit, she collaborated with the Māori tribe and the world-renowned Hakka Dancers, the same group that recently performed a fusion with global pop star Billie Eilish—creating a powerful blend of Indian and New Zealand heritage. As part of the Indian High Commission’s Independence Day celebrations, Shibani took part in the flag-hoisting ceremony and rendered a soulful patriotic song, evoking pride and unity among all present.The spectacular Due Drop Events Centre came alive with Shibani’s powerful voice and magnetic stage presence, delivering a musical journey that celebrated the spirit of India. Her performance stood as a heartfelt tribute to India’s 78th Independence Day, captivating audiences from diverse backgrounds and bridging hearts through harmony.This cultural evening, proudly supported by NZICA – New Zealand Indian Central Association, was part of a larger series of festivities that lit up Auckland, Hamilton, and Whangārei with vibrant cultural showcases.
