“Sisters Protect Each Other Too”: Harleen Kaur Rekhi on Unique Rakhi Tradition

Harleen Kaur Rekhi on Celebrating Rakhi After Two Years: ‘Sisters Protect Us Too’

Mumbai:For actress Harleen Kaur Rekhi, this Raksha Bandhan is a long-awaited reunion filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of family. The actress, who will soon be seen in the lead role of Kaamdhenu Devi in Star Bharat’s upcoming mythological drama Kaamdhenu Gaumata, is heading to Delhi to celebrate the festival with her loved ones after a gap of two years.

“This year is going to be really special because after such a long time, I get to be with my family for Rakhi,” Harleen shared with a smile. “Over the years, I’ve realised that relationships evolve. As we grow, we start to mature and truly understand the importance of our bond with siblings. Being the youngest in the family, I’ve always been the most pampered and my sisters and parents have been my pillars of strength through every phase of life.”

Harleen belongs to a close-knit family of four sisters, and their Rakhi celebrations come with a unique twist. With no real brother in the family, the sisters have built their own tradition — tying bracelets to each other as a symbol of love and protection. “People often associate Raksha Bandhan with a brother protecting his sister, but I believe sisters protect each other just as much. In our case, the love is the same, the promise of protection is the same, only the form is different,” she explained.

This year, Harleen has chosen a stylish bracelet as her Rakhi gift, keeping in mind her sisters’ tastes. “We usually gift each other something practical — clothes, accessories, something to eat, or just anything that will be useful for that person. It’s about the thought and care behind the gift, not its price tag,” she said.

And it’s not just about exchanging gifts. The sisters are planning something truly exciting — a girls’ trip to celebrate their bond. We wanted to make it more than just a day. So, we’re turning it into an experience — a few days filled with laughter, late-night chats, shopping, and making memories we’ll cherish forever,” Harleen revealed. For Harleen, this Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the unshakable bond between siblings, regardless of whether they are brothers or sisters. “At the end of the day, it’s about standing by each other, protecting one another, and making sure your loved ones know they are valued,” she said.
